57 Years On, We’re Bringing Them Back
Three acts from the 1970 Plumpton festival return to the same field, Anthony Gomes joins as our second headliner, and day tickets are now on sale.
In August 1970, the 10th National Jazz & Blues Festival took over Plumpton Racecourse. Caravan played it. So did Wishbone Ash, weeks away from recording their debut album. So did the Keef Hartley Band, the week before they played Woodstock ‘69.
Fifty-seven years later, all three are coming back to the same field.
Caravan Acoustic — Canterbury scene legends, and veterans of the 1970 Plumpton festival.
Martin Turner, ex Wishbone Ash — founding bassist and voice of Wishbone Ash, who played here the same summer.
Miller Anderson’s ‘Salute to Keef Hartley’ with Brothers in the Blues — Miller was the Keef Hartley Band’s singer and guitarist at Woodstock in 1969.
Our second headliner: Anthony Gomes
Canada’s blues rock powerhouse. Three number ones on the Billboard Blues Chart, named by Total Guitar as one of the 100 Greatest Blues Guitarists of All Time, endorsed by B.B. King, and a stage-sharer with Buddy Guy, Robert Plant and Joe Bonamassa.
Also joining the lineup
Leaf Hound — cult British heavy blues, whose 1971 album Growers of Mushrooms became one of the most sought-after records of its era.
R.A.D. — back by popular demand after opening Plumpton last summer.
You wanted day tickets. Here they are.
It’s been the most common question since we opened sales, so now you can come for the weekend or just pick your day.
Saturday 7th — Jethro Tull’s Martin Barre Band · Caravan Acoustic · Martin Turner ex Wishbone Ash · Belgian Quo Band
Sunday 8th — Anthony Gomes · These Wicked Rivers · Basement Saints · Letz Zep
Fair warning: Saturday has the 1970 reunion, Sunday has the blues rock. Picking one is going to be harder than it looks.
